Over 42,773 Americans die by suicide each year and for every suicide there are 25 attempts. On average there are 117 suicides per day which is approximately one every 13 minutes. It is the 10th leading cause of death in the US and the 2nd leading cause of death in people aged 15-34. At Angel in the Sky we want to be a supporting environment for individuals to go to seek refuge. Our end goal is to have a facility with a Bread & Breakfast atmosphere with trained psychologists, psychiatrists, spiritual advisors, nutritionists, as well as yoga, music, and art teachers on staff to create a loving place where people considering suicide can go. Until that day we are spreading the word in the community. Going to schools, churches, and businesses to educate people about Suicide awareness & prevention. This topic isn’t one of discussion, and when it is it usually has a negative connotation along with it like the person is weak, flawed, or selfish, but that isn’t the case. The sad truth is 70% of people communicate their intentions before their attempts, but we don’t take them seriously. Unless we start a dialogue and gain knowledge we will never see a change. So we need to spread the word and get people talking! Please remember if you or some one you know is struggling there is help.
