We were started in loving memory of David Arthur Colameco, Christopher T. Skelton, and Debra Carol Pal on May 13, 2016. Although for our founder, Briana Colameco, it all started on December 27th 2007. That day changed her life forever and put her on a path she never imagined…that is the day she truly grasped the devastating effects of Suicide. That was the day she learned she would never again hug, see, or hear her beloved brother David. That was the day that shattered her whole family and left them desperately trying to pick up the pieces. She had seen the effects of Suicide back in 1996 after loosing her cousin Chris, but she couldn’t understand. Being only five at the time, but now she was sixteen and lost her eldest brother, her protector, her hero, her best friend. He was gone and she thought about killing herself too, but couldn't put her parents through that again. So she suffered silently for four years and started cutting to control the pain. Through counseling, music, and faith she learned that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Then on August 10th, 2012 her family was once again rocked by suicide we they lost her Aunt Debbie. Loosing her aunt brought back the pain of loosing her brother, but she couldn’t let the grief consume her this time. That is when she knew she had to do something, but what was the question she wrestled with. After reading Danny Gokey’s book “Hope in Front of Me” she found her answer. On the front cover it read “Find Purpose in Your Darkest Moments” and that spoke to her. The book details Danny’s journey of loss, but through faith and music he turned his grief into something good a nonprofit to honor his late wife. In the book he says “Scars show where you have been. They don't decide where you’re going” and is what inspired Briana to start her nonprofit Angel in The Sky. The deaths of her brother, aunt, cousin, and others have ignited a spark in her to do something and be the change.

Know The Facts
Over 42,773 Americans die by suicide each year and for every suicide there are 25 attempts. On average there are 117 suicides per day which is approximately one every 13 minutes. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US and the 2nd leading cause of death in people aged 15-34. The sad truth is 70% of people communicate their intentions before their attempts, but most are not taken seriously. Understanding the issues concerning suicide and mental health is an important way to take part in suicide prevention, help others in crisis, and change the conversation around suicide. Read More >
